EYE5 OF THE HORIZON
by
SSSSSSSSHHIT. EVERY SO OFTEN I COME ACROSS A SERIES THAT STOPS ME IN MY TRACKS, THE KIND THAT DROWNS OUT THE NOISE. THE KIND THAT SLOWS ME THE FUCK DOWN IN THE MIDST OF THE CHAOS OF LIFE. THE KIND OF IMAGERY THAT MOVES YOU.
I'M A SUCKER FOR A GOOD OLD SOLID BLACK & WHITE SHOT, SO THIS NEO NOIR AESTHETIC WAS DEFINITELY A BIT OF ME. ITS REMINISCENT OF THE ALLURING PULSE OF FRANK MILLER'S SIN CITY, HOWEVER RATHER THAN GREED, TYRANNY AND DESTRUCTION THIS SERIES WAS FOUND GUILTY FOR TRYING TO TOUCH THE HEM OF PERFECTION. PHOTOGRAPHS WITH A RICH PLAYFUL BLEND OF CHARACTER AND INTIMACY, LIKE A LOVECHILD OF A COMIC BOOK AND A 15TH CENTURY RENAISSANCE PAINTING.
WHEN I SPOKE TO DELI5E ABOUT HIS PHOTOS HE DESCRIBED THEM AS HAVING:
"TEAR DUCT5 LIKE GREY CLOUD5"
IT'S INTERESTING TO ME HOW SOME OF THE EYE CONTACT IN THIS SERIES IS SO INTENSE, BUT IT MAKES ME FEEL AT EASE. IT'S A MYSTERIOUS JUXTAPOSITIONING, ALMOST LIKE TRYING TO GET OUT OF A CHINESE FINGER TRAP, OR LOOKING AT SOME REALLY OBVIOUSLY FAKE BREASTS AND THINKING THEY ARE GONNA BE STALE AND LIFELESS, BUT WHEN SHE TELLS YOU TO TOUCH THEM, THEY ARE REALLY WARM AND SOFT. I'VE BEEN TRYING TO WORK IT OUT FOR QUITE SOMETIME NOW. ONE THEORY I HAVE SO FAR IS THAT, IT'S BECAUSE THESE SHOTS DON'T ASK FOR ATTENTION, BUT RATHER COMMAND IT. THERE’S AN AUTHORITY TO IT, JUST LIKE WHEN JESUS 'G CHECKED' THE WIND AND WAVES IN THE STORM AND ORDERED THEM TO CHILL, WE ARE COMMANDED TO “BE STILL.”
WITH A GORGEOUS CONGRUENT IDENTITY, AND INCREDIBLE ATTENTION TO DETAIL THESE SHOTS ARE NOTHING LESS THAN ABSOLUTELY STUNNING. DELI5E HAS GIVEN ME PASSAGE INTO A BUBBLE OF A FAMILIAR YET DISTANT WORLD, AND HAS SUBMERGED ME IN IT.
SO WHEN THE TREACHEROUS WATERS OF LIFE FLOOD INTO MY SHIP, AND THEY WILL.
WHEN IT FEELS LIKE MY WORLD IS UNRAVELLING BEFORE MY EYES, AND YES IT SHALL.
I CAN GAZE INTO THESE SEA OF EYES, AND FIND SOLACE.
I CAN GAZE INTO THESE SEA OF EYES, AND FIND PEACE.
I CAN GAZE INTO THESE SEA OF EYES,
AND JUST ABOVE THE GLISTENING,
WHERE THE LIGHT CATCHES THE MUTED WAVES,
FIND THE HORIZON.
